Dinner at Wild Rocket

In a belated birthday celebration for Meini, we headed to Wild Rocket for dinner last Saturday.

Located on the ground floor of Hangout Hotel at Mount Emily, Wild Rocket is a casual bistro tucked away in lush greenery just behind Orchard Road. Though 'casual' being mentioned, pleeeaaassse do not appear in shorts and slippers!

The easiest way to get there would be to cab, as you will probably not smell too good after a long walk up and parking space is scarce. To get there, drive along Selegie Road and turn into Sophia Road. Go straight and turn into Upper Wilkie Road. At the end of Upper Wilkie, you will arrive at Hangout Hostel to your right.

Food is a little French, a little Italian, with added Singaporean twist with the use of ingredients/taste such as Laksa, chai poh, giam chye etc etc.

Items we tried:

Starters

Salmon Carpaccio with Wasabi Sauce & Ebiko

Cod Fish Cakes with Thai basil sauce

Mains

Lamb Shank

Chilean seabass on congee (with some garlic topping that tasted like chai poh, quite good leh!)

Duck Leg Confit with yam cake

Seafood spaghetti (no picture taken, we forgot.)

Desserts
Pandan Panna Cotta

Dark lave chocolate gateau with vanilla ice cream.

The above, and a bottle of South African Chenin Blanc, cost us $58 per person.

My verdict
Food is nothing to rave about. Both the duck leg and lamb shank was a bit rough and the spaghetti a tad too dry. Love the Panna Cotta though.
The food was rather a disappointment but the ambience and service made up for it. Place is classy yet casual at the same time, great for girlfriend get togethers (though we also saw two tables of two guys dining together) or a romantic dinner with your other half. Staff was attentive and friendly and helpfully assisted us in the selection of our bottle of wine. $58 is not a very good price to pay for the food, but i guess we are also paying for the ambience and service.
