Quizno and Tully's

Yesterday, HM invited us(me, yingni and jac attended) to the Hungry Guppies Attack for a free tasting of Quizno sandwiches and Tully's coffee drinks! Trust me, its nothing like sub***, Quizno is way better!

The 'Attack' started with an introduction of Quizno and Tully's (such as where they originated from, their specialties, the process of making the sandwiches and drinks, and how they are different from others).

It wasn't long before we start our actual tasting..and of cos we got to try three of their best-selling sandwiches!

Zesty Grill Steak (My favourite!)
thinly-sliced beef steak, mozzarella and cheddar cheese, mushrooms and sauteed onions with honey bourbon mustard and zesty grille sauce

Classic Italian (hmm, a bit too salty for me)
salami, pepperoni, honey ham, mozerella cheese, black olives, lettuce, tomato, red onion with red wine vinaigrette
Mesquite Chicken (huge chunks of chicken with fresh greens!)
mesquite chicken, bacon, cheddat cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion with ranch dressing

We also got to try one of the classic sandwiches,
Smokey Chilli Turkey (a classic. love the crusty white bread with sesame seeds)
smoked turkey, bacon, cheddar cheese, red onion with mild chipotle mayo and fresh cilantro

The generous portions of tasty meat and fresh greens served in a variety of bread toasted to a crispy-on-the-outside-and-soft-and -fluffy-on-the-inside perfection in their special toaster, were absolutely yummylicious.
In addition, you can help yourself to the free-flow pepper (jalapeno, pepperoni, etc) and sauce bar for additional filling to your sanwiches, though i say the sandwiches are good enough on their own.
Did I mention that the cookies are served warm such that the chocolate oozes out as you pull out a slice ot it? and they are so chewy you can't stop at one slice.

Tully's coffee were good too but if only we had bigger tasting portions! =P

I would definitely go back to Quizno and Tully's again. Sandwich lovers join me!

The ever social butterfly OYN

(Just before alighting)

(-_- first time take taxi can "bargain" one...)

The Proposal

Yea, a rather back-dated post again but due to its importance, i have decided to create a blog entry about it. Will keep it short and sweet though!

10 July 2007 was the second happiest day of my life. Cos what was supposedly a day of a short getaway turned out to be the day i was getting engaged to my boy of 5 years.

It started out with the usual sentosa routine, taking the sentosa tram, getting a spot at the beach and lazing for a couple of hours.

We then checked into our room at the Sentosa Spa and Resort before heading for our spa treatment at Spa Botanica. I really love the room!
After our spa, we headed back to our room and dressed up for dinner. Yea, Ah C said must dress up abit cos its a fine-dining restaurant.
Hee, feeling really good after the spa =P
We had dinner at The Cliff and it was al fresco.. pretty nice environment just beside the pool.

After dinner, we were supposed to go and catch the Songs of the Sea. But Ah C insisted that we crossed over the bridge at Palawan to take pictures. There and then, i realised that all the activities planned for the day were not for a simple reason.... and.... he proposed...
with many light sticks,
99 roses,
and a diamond ring.
and of cos all the activities he planned for the day.
But he will only marry me three years later.... so off la! anyway two years have passed... and i dun care, u have to ask me again next year (dear i know u are reading this).
Anyway, i said that was the second happiest day in my life.
Cos i guess the happiest day will be the day i marry my love =)

Bintan

I totally forgot to blog about our Bintan trip during the first week of 2008! Until I was going through my photos today. Very back-dated, but I decided to post this because I wanna add it to my Travel list!
Anyway, we went for a 2D1N trip to Bintan during the first week of 2008.

During the ferry ride to Bintan, the sea was really choppy and people around us were puking into brown paper bags distributed by the ferry staff. I felt perfectly fine, until..... AH C passed me a Lindt truffle and told me it can help PREVENT puking. Ya, i cannot resist chocolates, so i ate it... and within 5 minute, I BEGAN puking.... what good advice! Felt so terrible. Boo.

WE stayed at the Nirwana resort, which had very basic rooms (at least for the one i was staying in). Our room was on the first floor with a garden view... hmm, nothing spectacular.Anyway, as December was the monsoon season and the skies were rather grey on both days, we didn't really do any beach activities like tanning or swimming. Nevertheless, we did what we wanted - we spa-ed at the Angsana Spa (3 hours) - super good, quite pricey though!

Heh, us before the spa. Sorry there are no other photos, just wanted to relax!
Basically, we didn't really take much pictures cos there is nothing much interesting... hence these are the best i can offer... us! LOL.

He kissed the frog! no the frog didnt turn into prince. if he did, then he's homosexual. (ok super lame i know, i am like like lah!)

Anyway people who have been to batam have been telling me that Batam spas are really good and cheap. I must go try one day! Cos so far i have been to Angsana Spa and Spa Botanica, and though they are really good in terms of quality and service (i totally love them), they are quite expensive.

first attempt at chocolate fudge cake - success!

Last sunday I baked my first chocolate cake... and it was yummylicious!!! haha.. it just turned out better than i expected, cos i expected my sponge cake to flop. and i am glad it didn't! making of the chocolate cake involved two stages - the sponge cake and the fudge. so here we go...

sieve the all purpose flour with cocoa powder...

melt the butter over low heat, remove from heat and stir in vanilla essence

Add sugar to eggs
And whisk over simmering water...

remove suger+egg mixture and whip...

till foamy, about three times the original volume

fold in the flour+cocoa powder mixture
then fold in the egg+sugar+flour+cocoa powder mixture into the butter+vanilla essence mixture and bake at 375oF and.....
To make fudge:
heat heavy cream till boiling, and pour over semi-sweet chocolate buttons, then stir into unsalted butter and mix. Refrigerate for a couple of hours before using it as a filling and over cake
FAST FORWARD

Tada! Yummylicious chocolate fudge cake:

looking forward

Life has been pretty good this entire week... and i must say, life is pretty good for an associate in IA generally.

I cannot imagine myself becoming an AM, having to do field work, having to do planning, having to write reports, having to jungle several jobs at one time... worst of all, having to bring work home to do, having to work on weekends. I would want to draw a clear line between work and rest, between working hours and non-working hours. after work, i would want to have a good dinner, watch tv, catch a movie, read a book etc etc. i would never wish to go home and continue working. What kind of life will it be if i have to work 15hours a day?? i was not born to work 2/3 of my life away..... unless i am really enjoying my work and treat my work as my passion, as my hobby and i get fulfilment from it.
haha does that sound very '没有志气' to you?

though work has been rather ok for me, i still look forward to plenty of things. First and foremost, of cos it will be my US trip. Gosh, just 6weeks more only! i cant wait to shop (till i drop), visit Napa Valley for wine, eat at my fav Cheesecake Factory, go for Ring Dance (in my tailor-made Cheongsam), go on board Royal Carribean cruise and out to Carribean sea... and of cos spend time with my dear! i can't wait to see him... it has been such a long time.....

I have been waiting for three years... i sure look like i m totally used to it but in fact, each time he leaves, i never fail to tear when sending him off and it was always a new cycle of learning to adapt life without him around. i am getting a little bit impatient and hope the final year passes quickly, so that he will be back to spend time with me...and we can move on with our plans as soon as possible!

i look forward to our wedding, and is now constantly going through packages, reviews, pictures and food menus of various hotels and restaurants to shortlist several venues. the cost is important, so is the food (to me) and we really have to figure out how to strike a balance. when he's back in june, we will start going for physical sightings of the shortlisted venues!

we intend to get our house by next year too! i cant wait to have our home - my kitchen island for me to do my baking, cosy sofa area with all sorts of entertainment for friends to come over and chill... sipping wine and chit-chatting... argh, can't wait.

and then flying off to aussie/france/canada/us with dear for his various flying trainings... where i will go learn different languages, enrol in patisserie and professional wine courses, and come back to singapore eventually to set up my long-awaited cafe! maybe also to have children and get all my children double citiznship, haha!

eventually i would really love to migrate to another country, where climbing the corporate ladder and material things are not so important.

i really look forward to OUR very colourful life together, even though i cant say for sure that all will materialise... but i am hopeful! =)
